The Language of Nature (Sayang Alam)

Figurative art has always been my first choice. It is challenging because painting a human figure requires getting the emotion, appearance and, of course, proportions right. If I paint a native woman, she must look like one.

For a complete composition, I love to bring in the surrounding nature, which I have painted in monochrome tones. But that alone is not enough. I added geometric patterns because, to me, design is how we interpret and organise the human world, while nature grows without following any grid or design.

The bird surely has something to say. Its presence brings a sense of harmony, peace and serenity, with nothing destructive in sight. Yet we know that every gaze upon nature, and every human intervention, can change the natural world. It is only a matter of time.

For me, composing a tale and interpreting it through a painting is more difficult than painting the scene itself. The challenge lies in bringing different elements together to convey an idea without explaining everything.
